die-cut designer flowers

Layers of coloured tyvek (tough non-woven polyethylene sheet), shaped by die cutting, draped over a light bulb to diffuse the light. This is nice example of reinterpreting an industrial process for a decorative object. Die cutting is used to make packaging, promotional materials and stationary products: in most cases it is simply the most efficient way of making cutouts in sheet materials that are subsequently folded, assembled and glued together. Whereas for this lampshade it is the fundamental process and utilised for both functional and decorative purposes.
