mass-produced one-off?

I one-offed these mass-produced plastic containers in a dishwasher: the temperature was just high enough to distort the thin wall sections but not melt them completely. The concept of creating individual pieces on a mass-production line has led designers to experiment with and challenge conventional engineering practices. Although I cannot think of one good example of a mass-produced one-off there are many examples of designers harnessing industrial processes to create individual and personalised decorative objects such as Tord Boontje's flower light and my material memories.
